Watched Death Note 2: The Last Name

Ever since I've watched Death Note less than two months ago, it really caught my attention especially the ending that hinted a sequel, it got me excited wondering when the sequel would be released.

The ever anime-crazy sÞ¡ηηєє even recommend me to watch the anime on YouTube quoting that it was so much more interesting than the movie. Indeed, it was more interesting when compared with the movie which missed out so many important parts and made up so many scenes that's different from the manga or anime!!! Downloaded so many episodes and now still awaiting episode #11, it's getting so exciting!!!



I was in Bangkok for a short getaway with my gf last week and both of us got all excited upon seeing this poster at Siam Paragon. We decided to make time for this movie as the movie is not screened in Singapore yet!



We managed to squeeze some time on our last night to watch Death Note 2: The Last Name at the impressive Paragon Cineplex. It was such a huge and classy cineplex, just look at the decoration explained everything, furthermore the ticket was so much cheaper at only 140 bht (SIN$6.10) !!!

Similary to Golden Village cinemas, it also delay its screening time with a total of 6 trailers and less than 10 advertisments. We had to stand up for a tribute song to Thailand's king before the movie is screened, whereas here we get clips telling us to switch off our mobile phones!!

Here's the synopsis of the movie extracted from Golden Village's website:

Light joins the task force searching for Kira in an effort to avert suspicion from himself and also, to get rid of L. The mystery deepens as another Death Note with its shinigami, is brought into the human world. A second and third Kira complicates the mystery. Making things even more unpredictable are the ‘Eyes of Death’, given to the second Kira, enabling the owner to know the true identity and lifespan of any person. Who would get hold of the ‘Trump Card’ which would determine the outcome of events? And who will be the Last name?

Well, since that I've not read the manga nor the anime had reached this far, I'm in no position to comment whether the movie is better? Nevertheless from the anime that I've watched so far, Death Note 2: The Last Name is already going a different direction from the anime since it continues from the first movie, frankly speaking it's kinda made-up story from the end of the first movie.

I find Death Note 2: The Last Name rather lengthy as it has a total running time of 140 minutes (as per stated in GV's website). There's too much talking here and there, some of the dialogues are rather "chim" and need to listen carefully or watch till the end to understand what's happening, maybe I'm slow or got distracted by the Thai subtitles!!



Many new characters were introduced and brought quickly into the story. Erika Toda is sweet and cute in the movie, I love this new character!!! More please .....

I had a feeling that the director tried to squeeze too much elements into the movie. It had a happy ending to both fans of L and Light..... as both suffered the same fate! It could be considered as a sad ending too....

Nevertheless, I think that it's still a good movie that's worth the money to watch in the cinema, but certainly it would disappoint those whom had watch the anime or read the manga, because the original story was already been changed to the extent of beyond recognition.

I'm still waiting for the upcoming release of the remaining Death Note episodes to see how much the movie had adapted from the anime (already the scene of Kira sending 3 tapes to TV station in #10 was seen in the movie) before deciding whether to condemn Death Note 2: The Last Name. Currently, I would give it 3 out of 5 stars!



So all of you happily wait for the release on 28 December 2006!!!
